Why was our Grip Strength Testing Booth so Popular this week?

Your grip is telling you something.
It turns out your handshake may be one of the best predictors of how long and how well, you'll live.
Grip strength sounds like a gym metric. But researchers have come to see it as a window into the body's overall functional reserve — its capacity to meet the demands of daily life and resist disease.
In a landmark study of nearly 140,000 adults across 17 countries, lower grip strength was associated with a significantly higher risk of death from all causes. It outperformed blood pressure as a predictor of mortality!
Grip strength isn't just about the hand, it reflects the integrity of the entire musculoskeletal system.
At the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce Event, everyone asked us the same question: "Why does squeezing a dynamometer tell us so much? "
• Because grip strength correlates strongly with lean muscle mass, neuromuscular efficiency, bone density, and the body's ability to recover from illness or surgery.
• People with low grip strength fall more, fracture more easily, recover more slowly, and are more likely to develop sarcopenia.
• It's also sensitive to change.
• Grip strength responds positively to training, and declines due inactivity, illness, or chronic stress.
• That makes it both a diagnostic signal and a modifiable target.
The good news: grip strength is trainable at any age. Grip strength testing takes about 30 seconds with a handheld dynamometer. It gives you a number you can track over time, a direct window into how your body is aging. This is exactly what preventative care should look like: simple, meaningful, and actionable long before symptoms appear. Questions about your movement health? Reach out to schedule a Movement Physical — grip strength is part of every assessment.
